First Post

Since everyone is being a bit shy about posting, I hope to lower the bar a little by making a post with relatively little content.

Here are some of the short stories I've read lately. I think I've sent out some of these to the Search list, but not others.

Friendship is Optimal: If you are clueless about the "my little ponies" craze, this one may be a bit confusing. It's a good read. The basic idea is that an insane superintelligent computer re-shapes the world to look like a children's cartoon. This may or may not be a good thing. (I was left with the feeling that it was a good thing, but I think the author intended to leave it open to interpretation.)

Heaven is Terrifying: This is basically a re-do of the previous story from a different point of view (and by a different author). Some people liked it better, so I read both. I think the author intended the outcome to be more clearly negative (hence "heaven is terrifying"), but I'm sorry, I still don't see what's wrong with this picture.

The Finale to the Ultimate Mega Crossover: This one, at least, is about death (our semester topic). An argument for immortality. Note: when I say "argument for immortality", I mean an argument for the thesis that everyone is already immortal (death is impossible).

Divided By Infinity: A similar argument for immortality, illustrated in a more negative light (immortality is more or less a bad thing but inescapable).

A list of stories on that topic.
